About the Department

The Enterprise Division comprises four companies: Contracting, Rail, Telecoms and Utilities. The SSE Enterprise Projects and Operational Support Team support the entire Enterprise division leading the deployment of best practice in assurance, project management, engineering and in handling strategic projects.

SSE Enterprise Contracting is one of the UK's largest Mechanical and Electrical (M+E) contractors with a product/service portfolio ranging from M+E LV, HV, Instrumentation, Street Lighting, Facilities Management through to Combined Heat and Power solutions.

What is the Role

The SSE Enterprise Contracting division has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Electrical Contracts Engineer to join our existing team in Portsmouth.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the SSE Enterprise team to support the delivery of Contracting projects at a time when there is significant growth within the business. We are looking for a suitably qualified Contracts Engineer to help deliver projects; allowing you to be involved in the full project lifecycle from design and build to operation and maintenance. Therefore, you will be responsible for managing multiple projects from design, through delivery, to handover including managing the daily activities of internal and contractor resource, as well as project documentation, financial reporting, contract process management and escalation management to appropriate standards.

As an experienced Electrical Contracts Engineer, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as you will be liaising with customers, Project Managers and other stakeholders to provide regular updates and reviews, delivering safely and to our customer’s expectations.

Skills and Experience Required

The ideal candidate for this role will have extensive experience as a Electrical Contracts Engineer. You should have a pragmatic, and customer focused approach; with a demonstrable history in the Contracting industry delivering projects.

You will have knowledge and demonstrable experience of managing the full project lifecycle and can take responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of complex projects in a complex environment using best-practice methodologies, ensuring effective cost controls and resourcing to enable the delivery of projects to budget, contractual requirements, quality and time. You will encourage innovation and can provide leadership and focus for the project teams, comprising of SSE and Third parties across multiple sites. 

Ideally you will possess the following:

Educated to HNC level or equivalent as a minimum in a project management, electrical or engineering discipline.

Extensive experience gained within contracting operations, you will be familiar with the operational authorisation structure and have an in-depth knowledge of CDM and knowledge of IS0 9001 and IS0 14001 regulations.

Site Manager Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)

Due to the level of mobility required in this role a full UK driving license is essential.
