About the Department

The Enterprise Division comprises four companies: Contracting, Rail, Telecoms and Utilities. The SSE Enterprise Projects and Operational Support Team support the entire Enterprise division leading the deployment of best practice in assurance, project management, engineering and in handling strategic projects.

SSE Enterprise Telecoms operates a 13,700km private telecoms network, with 265 Points of Presence and connectivity to over 80 commercial data centres that span the UK. With its extensive telecoms engineering experience, the company provides commercial security with unrivalled in-house engineering resource to Service Providers, Large Enterprises and the Public Sector providing a competitive range of leading-edge Ethernet, Cloud Connect, Optical Networking and Co-location services.

What is the Role

The NOC Engineer ensures that the network is monitored, and all alarms are diagnosed and dealt with in a timely manner.  They will also ensure that customer faults are investigated, and the relevant engineers are engaged to resolve the issue, and that customers and management receive regular status updates.

Experienced in diagnosing faults, fault resolution and ensuring faults are resolved within SLA. It is critical that customer expectations are managed through regular communication.  Strong communication skills and the ability to use your own initiative are a must. Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and coordinate tasks are essential for this role.

What do I need?

You will demonstrable experience in the following technologies within a Network Operations Centre:

- Experienced in all aspects of networking L1-L2

- Working knowledge Fibre, and Fibre repair process.

- Wide knowledge of Ciena networks, OM6500, CPL OneControl  

- Working knowledge of DWDM System, Infinera, Sorento  

- Working knowledge of SDH and PDH networks 

It would also be advantageous but not essential if you had experience of:

- Knowledge of Radio systems (SIAE)

- Knowledge of IP networks (Cisco, Nokia)

- Experience in site event management (Access/ Mains Power /UPS /Generator /Air Con / Security)

Excellent team work abilities are required to ensure the teams’ workload is managed effectively and Service Level Agreements are met.  A high level of understanding of ticket management including raising and updating tickets, through to creating and running reports is also important.
