Salary: circa €80k - €90k depending on skills and experience + annual bonus

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Corporate Affairs team for SSE Ireland, including: Renewables, Thermal, Home and Business Energy and Enterprise.
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Affairs and Strategy and with direct accountabilities to the Business Unit MDs and SSE Ireland leads, the Head of Corporate Affairs SSE Ireland is responsible for managing all of SSE’s Corporate Affairs activities related to Business Unit activities in Ireland and has a critical dual role:
-Being a true Business Partner to Business Units helping each Business evolve and succeed
-Being a modern Corporate Affairs specialist who collaborates across the Group
-Provide high quality strategic counsel to the Business Unit Managing Director, Executive Committee and Ireland leads about ongoing policy, advocacy, sustainability, communications and external stakeholder developments. Identify how these could affect commercial strategy, planned investments, operations or the fulfilment of business goals and recommend solutions.
-Provide internal and external insight to inform the formulation of Business Unit and Group strategy and support its implementation.
-Ensure strong collaboration with other corporate support functions and business units to maintain consistency of messages and approaches to engagement across the SSE Group.
-Manage the SSE Ireland Business Units’ reputation and external relationships in a structured and coordinated manner. This entails leading teams that establish, develop and maintain constructive relationships with key civil servants, leading industry stakeholders, non-governmental organisations and other influencers. Manage relationships with senior civil servants and politicians on behalf of the Group Executive Committee and Business Unit Executive Committees.
-Ensure the identification, development and deployment of policy, advocacy and communications solutions to current and emerging business issues in support of Business Unit objectives.
-Formulate Business Unit advocacy priorities and agree these on a regular basis with the Business Unit Executive Committees and Ireland Management Board.
-Oversee the development and deployment of effective issues management plans and/or advocacy plans for one-off or ongoing issues.
-Prepare, in conjunction with Investor Relations corporate reporting materials (e.g. preliminary results statements, annual report, RNS statements) in a way that is high quality, conveys SSE’s messages and balances multiple stakeholder and shareholder expectations of SSE. Provide support for Investor Relations on SSE Ireland matters generally.
-Represent SSE Ireland on external bodies and act as a spokesperson for SSE Ireland at external events and conferences.
-Oversee all communications activities in support of SSE Ireland objectives, including SSE Ireland and Business Unit website content, social media, print and online media, advertisements, and collateral.
-Lead a team that manages reactive media, establishes media relationships and that is responsible for crisis communications.
-Lead a diverse professional team that provides effective and constantly improving Corporate Affairs services and advice to the SSE Ireland Business Units. Services include advocacy, external insight, policy development, and communications.
-Provide clear direction to the team to ensure priorities are aligned with Business Units’ strategies.
-Ensure efficient allocation of resources towards fast-changing issues and priorities in line with level of service agreed with the Business Unit Executive Committees.
Your Skills and Experience
-Strong communicator, both written and oral, and comfortable presenting and advising at senior executive level.
-Proven track record interfacing with senior officials, senior public representatives, and senior executives with the goal of influencing decision making
-Establish and maintain a strong internal network across all relevant business areas and corporate functions with the view to understanding positions and priorities and influencing outcomes.
-Ability to grasp complex information and understand how, and when, to use it in SSE’s public interest. Address issues or problems that are ambiguous and difficult to define and seek proactive and create solutions that meet overall business objectives.
-In depth knowledge of energy markets, commercial drivers and public policy levers across all relevant jurisdictions. Spot societal trends and connect these with potential implications for the energy sector.
-Strong understanding of SSE’s Group strategy, Business Unit strategy and commercial priorities across the Group.
-Accountable for leading and supervising a cross-functional team, therefore strong management skills are required to manage and develop employees, including high potential talent. Ability to develop project or team plans which establish objectives for others, set timetables, allocate accountabilities and co-ordinate resources
-Confident and resilient in appropriately challenging senior internal stakeholders’ thinking and decisions.
-Demonstrated initiative with an ability to work in a pressurised environment to tight deadlines and a willingness to commit to and deliver long-term strategic objectives
-Open and flexible work style to adapt to changing priorities, structures, and promote cross functional collaboration
