Our Role

The Product Engineer is based within the SSE Enterprise Telecoms function and works closely with the Product Management team.  Through technical innovation the team supports product development in introducing new products into the Telecoms network providing technical solutions, testing and evaluation for new product requests from the Product Management team. 

The functions within the team can vary project-to-project and the candidate should expect to be in a dynamic and engaging role with likeminded individuals.  They are hands-on and through learning, is positioned as a centre of technical excellence that can influence strategy.

A passion for delivering the right results for the business and determination to deliver work in short cycle times while leveraging business resources with efficiency to provide infrastructure enhancements.

You will also continually research for alternative technology partners to complement and enhance current infrastructure and service offerings in large bid support to understand how the customers of the future may impress new demands on our products and infrastructure.

Your Skills and Experience

You will ideally bring a Bachelor's degree in a related field and have experience of product engineering within a multi-disciplined role and a desire to expand on current knowledge.

Excellent Communication Skills and the ability to create and deliver training sessions to cross-train the wider Design Team in the key discipline is essential and will include training on the technology as well as the existing network architecture, processes, capacity allocation and records.

You’ll have a strategic approach with sound commercial or service enhancing justification for investment while being dedicated to meeting customer expectations, including the ability to deliver on deadlines.

Strong influencing skills, to effect change in Telecoms strategy where value add can be provided is essential. 

You should have technical knowledge of the following:

- IP: Cisco, Alcatel (All layer 2 and 3 products and services including MPLS, L2VPN, L3VPN, Managed services, QoS, Wireless, Internet offering

- Optical, SDH, PDH: Ciena, Turin, Sorrento, Magdalene. (All products and services)

- Fibre: Types, capacity and testing    

- Strong Understanding of Unified Communications & Network Protocols: OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, SIP, IPsec, ICE, DNS/DHCP and SNMP

- SD WAN, NFV
