What will I do during the placement?

During the placement you will work in a project support role supporting the existing Projects Team in the administration and organisation of many project activities, from the simple to the more complex. Responsibilities shall include working closely with the Project Managers to prepare comprehensive action plans and various coordinating tasks, such as schedule and risk management, along with administrative duties, like maintaining project documentation and handling financial queries. To succeed in this role, you should have an interest in technology, along with excellent time management and communication skills, as you’ll collaborate with clients and internal teams to deliver results on deadlines.  Financial acumen is advantageous to the role to provide some level of budget & procurement assistance to the project management team.

You will provide regular, accurate reporting, as required, so that Project & Programme Management have access to the level of information they need about the status of project and financial delivery. Ultimately, the Project Coordinator’s duties are to ensure that activities assigned to them by the Project Team are completed on time, within budget and meet high quality standards.

What do I need?

You’ll have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us, as often candidates who join us on summer placements consider joining our Graduate Programmes after graduation.

In this role, you’ll ideally be on track to achieve a 2:2 level degree in an analytics, data science, project management, IT, Technology or Telecommunications-related subject, along with related work or project experience.  Consideration will also be given to students with other STEM qualifications, however we would love you to have some knowledge of:-

  • Networking (TCP/IP, Ethernet, Optical). Cisco exposure desirable
  • Servers and Virtualisation (MS Hyper-V, VMware ESX)
  • Programming / Scripting
  • MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Visio)
  • Excellent written / verbal communication skills and a can-do attitude to new tasks.
