Our Role

SSE Enterprise brings together five of SSE's non-core energy businesses: Contracting, Rail, Telecoms, Utilities and ESG (Energy Solutions Group).  SSE Enterprise operates in a complex environment with both evolving technology and emerging government policy/legislation to contend with, as it looks to grow market share.

As Corporate Affairs Manager, you will partner business leaders to enhance their reputation, allowing them to positively influence their key stakeholders and achieve sustainable business outcomes.  Furthermore, you’ll deliver strategic advice and creative communications to support business development objectives.

Your public affairs experience, coupled with a passion for understanding the challenges of the markets where SSE Enterprise’s businesses operate, will be key to your success.  This often complex role would suit someone with an appetite for: delivering public affairs and communications plans, as well as forging trusted partnerships with business leaders and their teams, by adding real value to their decisions.

The successful applicant will need to manage multiple ‘clients’ and issues so PR agency experience would be beneficial but by no means essential.  Working in tandem with the Head of Corporate Affairs for Enterprise you’ll get the chance to shape and influence how we approach government officials and elected representatives to articulate both the credentials and the needs of the Enterprise business. This job is all about responding to consultations, spotting opportunities to influence, and getting business leaders ‘in the room’ with the right people…and you’ll sometimes be in that room with them!

Your Skills and Experience

Due to the nature of this opportunity, you’ll have a track record of working collaboratively across a broad range of teams and stakeholders using your first-class communication skills to clearly articulate business needs.  With this is mind you’ll have excellent written and verbal communication skills along with interpersonal skills which will give you the credibility to advise senior executives. To be successful, you should understand SSE and the sectors it operates within and have a demonstrable track record of success in stakeholder engagement and policy development.  This is a real opportunity to supply our Enterprise business with accessible, consistent and well-deployed content that will influence its audience.

Our Company

SSE is a UK-based FTSE-100 company with a diverse portfolio of energy interests, making it a fascinating place for a career in corporate affairs for anyone with an interest in the energy sector.   SSE employs everyone from skilled engineers to excellent communicators, but everyone here is treated as an individual in what we hope is an inclusive culture. Many of our 20,000 employees at SSE are both proud and passionate about our role in ‘keeping the lights on’ and providing the UK with the energy to power all our lives in a sustainable way. The diversity of our workforce presents plenty of opportunities within SSE Group for people to develop their career to their full potential.
