Our Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Strategic Procurement Officer who will be responsible for sourcing the supply of works, goods and services required predominantly by our Electricity Networks business units.  With your organised and systematic approach, you’ll support the Category Managers and Procurement & Commercial Managers in the development of standard and complex contracting and sourcing strategies to ensure the lowest total cost of ownership to the group.

You’ll suggest robust contractual provisions to mitigate risks in contract delivery, whilst ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures and external legislation (including UK Procurement legislation where applicable).  Knowledge of the relevant statutory and legal provisions including Safety, Health and Environmental is therefore also required.

You will also support supplier relationship and performance management activities relevant to your area of supply, so excellent negotiation, influencing and communication skills will also be key.  You will work with the wider Procurement and Commercial team to continually drive efficiencies in the overall process and sourcing specifically.

Your Skills and Experience

The role will require a significant level of knowledge and understanding of construction contracts, therefore it’s important that you can confidently converse with both Project Managers and Engineering staff to ensure project requirements, risks and mitigations are defined, mitigated and clarified within contract documents.  Knowledge and understanding of the construction lifecycle of projects would also be advantageous.

Additionally, you’ll need to bring:-

  • Broad knowledge of contracts with ability to draft special terms, including dispute procedures.
  • Preferred experience of NEC suite of contracts
  • Proficient in Procurement related systems e.g. Oracle, Emptoris, Achilles Utility Vendor Database
  • Ability to influence users outside own sphere of responsibility e.g. to widen scope of specifications
  • Proven track record in the end to end management of procurement processes
