Our Role

As Senior Planning Engineer, you’ll be tasked with providing planning and scheduling services on assigned Rail projects.

With this in mind, we are looking with an individual to;  

  • Serve as a thought-leader and technical expert in full project lifecycle planning & scheduling.
  • Successfully manage and effectively leverage the cross-discipline relationships within the project controls functions.
  • Provide mentoring in areas of expertise.
  • Supervise, create, implement, and execute a top-down approach in respect of the strategy plans and schedules that support the project work processes and deadlines.
  • Supervise, baseline, gain approval, issue and implement schedules that meet the time, cost and quality needs of the project team.
  • Update schedules with actual progress and forecast remaining durations.
  • Prepare and issue status reports and schedule analysis narratives.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor earned value systems that accurately measure progress and performance.
  • Provide timely reporting and feedback to project and business group management.
  • Apply practical field experience with planning & scheduling knowledge to identify challenges to the project schedule and suggest mitigation plans.
  • Prepare schedule risk analysis to forecast schedule contingencies and related impacts.


Your Skills and Experience

To perform this role, you’ll be an experienced planning professional with demonstrable leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate people to drive the business forward and achieve goals.  You will be able to combine these qualities with strong organisational skills and, particularly, a keen eye for detail. 

Other key requirements include:

  • Previous experience in either the Rail, Petro-chemical or Nuclear industry is preferred
  • Project experience in excess of £100m is essential.
  • BSc degree in Engineering, Construction, Project Management or a related technical field at National Level NVQ5.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing software.
  • Experience of Primavera 6 planning & Scheduling system.
  • Typically, at least 10 years’ experience of relevant planning experience.
  • Active membership in at least one relevant professional body or association is preferred.
