Our Role

As a Street Lighting Electrician, your role will involve the installation of a range of street and highway lighting apparatus and all related maintenance works, including full electrical testing, disconnecting, repairing and replacing old or faulty equipment and recording all necessary paperwork. You’ll maintain the network and install all electrical equipment, such as street lighting columns, bollards, signs and feeder pillars, including all associated wiring. The role will also include basic testing and inspection to BS767, fault finding on private networks, excavation and reinstatement in multiple surface types to current NRSWA standards.

You’ll be expected to carry out the safe use and operation of tools, equipment and vehicles associated with the role. You’ll work in a safe manner, in accordance with SSE’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures. You will also be required to cover out of hours call out as part of a rota basis.

Your Skills and Experience

You’ll have completed a registered apprenticeship (or undergone an equivalent method of training) and have had adequate practical training in electrical installation and/or servicing & maintenance work.

You’ll hold City and Guilds 2360 Parts 1 and 2 or 2351 or 2330 levels 2 and 3 (or approved equivalent) and must have obtained an NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation and/or servicing and maintenance work (or approved equivalent). Certificates in G39, IPAF & MEWP, CSCS/ECS and NRSWA would also be beneficial.

Experience of working both within a team and individually is vital, as well as good communication and organisational skills. It would also be advantageous if you had good knowledge of the local road network and layout. A driving licence (to category C1) is essential (and HGV is preferable).
