SSE’s Sustainability Practice Team has an exciting opportunity for a Sustainability Officer to join on a six month internship. Within the team, you will be responsible for analysing and reporting on SSE’s key policies, management and performance in relation to its economic, social and environmental impacts and providing comprehensive analysis of key sustainability impacts and trends, both nationally and globally.

In this high profile role you will be able to work on a varied range of projects and utilise a wide range of different skills day to day. You can expect to be involved in communicating SSE’s key sustainability initiatives to internal and external stakeholders, as well as assessing where there are opportunities for developing new responsible business practices.  You will be able to contribute to content development for SSE’s sustainability reports, including its annual sustainability report which in 2017 was ranked as the 8th best in the FTSE 100. Different areas of the business (such as investor relations and business sales teams) will come to you for information requests regarding sustainability to this is a really good opportunity to interact with a diverse range of stakeholders in the organisation.

To be successful within this role, you should have a degree in a numerical or sustainability-focused discipline (an environmental background is beneficial, but not essential) and be able to demonstrate use of your analytical skills within a practical setting. You should also be able to provide evidence of your teamwork experience, your multi-tasking ability and your excellent written and verbal communication skills. Due to the nature of your role, you will often be required to work autonomously as well as within a team setting so  attention to detail and the ability to prioritise your workload independently are essential skills for this role.
