Overhead Lines Craft Instructor

SSE is one of the largest and most diverse Energy companies in the UK and Ireland with around 9 million customers and over 19,000 staff. Our electricity distribution and transmission networks carry electricity to over 3.7 million homes and businesses across the north of the Central Belt of Scotland and also Central Southern England and the skills of our operational staff are essential to keep the lights on. With this in mind we are now looking for an Overhead Lines Instructor to join our team to be  based in Perth.
You will be responsible for delivery of delivering instruction on practical skills for the full range of overhead lines competencies, underpinning theoretical knowledge and operational authorisation rules for apprentices and trainees including competency assessment, as well as craft refresher training and reassessment for operational overhead lines staff. Preparing and developing training programmes to ensure that the learning needs of the delegates are met, you will provide support, guidance and encouragement to create a safe operational working within SSE.
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong operational background and knowledge/experience with the construction and maintenance of overhead lines on distribution networks. You should have a high level of practical skills to provide demonstrations to trainees which will include climbing wood poles.
You should be authorised for live working and switching operations on low voltage distribution networks. Strong communication, organisation and team working skills are key and you should be comfortable liaising with staff and customers at various levels. Qualifications to instruct and assess are a requirement of the role, however, training will be provided (Level 3 Award in Education and Training and TAQA Assessor Qualification or equivalent).
Training will be delivered at our Perth Training Centre but the successful candidate must be willing to travel where there is a business need for delivery at other locations or carry out site auditing therefore a full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
In return, we can offer you a competitive salary package in a position which has excellent routes for career progression within the SSE Group. You will also enjoy an attractive benefits package, including pension, share plans, a generous leave entitlement (with options to purchase additional leave), reductions on energy, phone and broadband bills, plus a host of other rewards and lifestyle benefits. As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from everyone, and value diversity in our workforce. We will consider part time and/or flexible working arrangements for this role.
