This is a role for someone who’s highly inquisitive, who enjoys peeling back layers to investigate problems and who studies relationships between data, including those that at first glance may seem unrelated.

You’ll use data analysis and algorithm development to drive business value from both structured and unstructured data. You’ll work with process owners and business users to clarify requirements and plan the implementation of descriptive and predictive analytics requests. Furthermore, you’ll deliver predictive modelling projects and collaborate with the rest of the Smart insight team to improve on the methodologies used by existing models.

In addition, you’ll work with the existing teams to ensure insights and learnings can be shared and acted upon, providing technical guidance and support for less experienced team members of the group.

You will drive the key outcomes of understanding people, system and process impacts on SSE Meter Assets and will work with operational functions to drive continuous improvement through data and insight.

To be successful you will need knowledge of the following software packages or similar:

  • Tableau
  • Miscorsoft R Open 3.2
  • SQL
  • Microsoft Office Suite ( VBA (Optional))

You will also need:

  • BSc, MSc degree (or equivalent), with concentration in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, computer science, mathematics, economics, or operations research
  • Several years’ experience in statistical modelling and data mining
  • Several years’ experience in analysing large and small data sets to drive insight, ideally for assets
  • Good understanding of CHAID and C5.0; Linear / Logistic Regression; Clustering techniques (K-Means, Kohonen); Neural Networks; Support Vector Machines; Cross-sectional and time series analysis; Analysis of variance; Monte Carlo method, and Text Analytics
  • Comfortable with pulling and coding data in the absence of a dedicated ETL team
  • Ability to build from scratch and set up data governance and dictionary models
  • Proven ability in analysing and understanding systems and business requirements
  • Proven ability in delivering succinct reports using Tableau, MS EXCEL and PowerPoint, that are tailored to different situations and audiences

You should be creative in solving problems and have great attention to detail. Confident to take responsibility for deliverables, you’ll have highly effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Closing date for applications is Friday 1 December 2017

If successful, you may be subject to a verification and vetting process that includes a basic criminal record check.
