DIRECTOR OF PROJECTS – NUCLEAR

Due to recent growth and expansion in the Nuclear sector following a number of contract wins, we currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Projects Director to take ownership and drive our Nuclear business forward.
Reporting directly to the Deputy Managing Director of Enterprise, this pivotal leadership role will oversee all aspects of our Nuclear business unit. You will play a key role in maximising quality and efficiency to support the growth targets, together with driving value through innovation and implementing a continuous improvement philosophy. This is critical for the business to retain focus on our efficiency agenda, keeping things simple and avoiding wasting, materials energy or time.
You will be required to lead, motivate and empower all levels of staff within the team to achieve their full potential, deploying various initiatives and ensuring the appropriate skill sets and cultures are promoted to improve efficiencies and customer experience, whilst ensuring effective development of people and structures to optimal performance and delivery at all times. You will promote a positive but challenging environment which allows people to excel and succeed. In addition you will be responsible for actively developing a safety culture that will constructively challenge unsafe behaviour and publicise positive behaviour. It will be your duty to monitor and control business unit safety performance to ensure all Company and customer safety rules and procedures are applied by staff and contractors.
In addition you will manage, direct, decide and inspire the Delivery Teams of Resource Managers and Project Managers. Working with Resource Managers to help set objectives, monitor and review performance, and provide on-going feedback and training in order to develop capability and raise the overall performance of the team. It will be your responsibility to manage and direct project resource to deliver against project and programme objectives, providing regular evidence based feedback on individual performance to Resource Managers. Further responsibility will require financial management of the overall Budget of Team to include staff costs and their overheads in line with the Nuclear business plan. Ensuring forecasting and reporting is carried out correctly against budget, and that each project is run in the most cost efficient manner for the benefit of SSE Enterprise.
This role has a wide ranging remit, including Continuous Improvement, Assurance, Performance and Project Delivery. As a senior leader within Enterprise, you should be a professional individual with demonstrable leadership skills along with the ability to implement strategies to ensure that profitable business growth is accelerated. You will be a strategic thinker and display strong influencing skills along with strong planning and organisational skills. Your excellent communication skills, energy, drive and passion along with a commitment to SSE's Leadership Blueprint will assist in your success.
The successful candidate for this exciting role will be a degree qualified engineer with an extensive history of leading Nuclear projects of various scale with project management methodologies. You should have proven people management skills in order to direct and drive, strong planning and organisational skills and an ability to identify opportunities and ideas to take the organisation forward. A proven leader and motivator, you will have strong influencing skills and an ability to build and manage stakeholder relationships. You will possess excellent analytical problem solving skills and have the energy and drive to deliver under pressure within tight timescales. You should be comfortable working both as part of a larger team but also autonomously when the need arises. You will have a strong customer service ethic and a passion for maintaining a high standard of safety across the business.
