Senior Network Designer - IP/MPLS

SSE Enterprise Telecoms

Location: Reading

Salary:  Circa £60k, plus excellent benefits

SSE Enterprise Telecoms own and operate one of the largest telecoms and data centre networks in the UK. We operate a 13,700km private telecoms network and an estate of 17 data centres that span the UK, specialising in the provision of high performance Ethernet, optical networking and co-location services for customers whose businesses depend upon the availability and performance of cloud, IT and communication assets.

This role is within the IP/MPLS design team which forms part of the Reading based Network Technology Commercial team, with responsibility for the co-ordination and design of the MPLS, DCN and Internet platforms. You will act as the design authority when interacting with other parts of the SSE Enterprise Telecom business and have responsibility for the expansion of the existing MPLS network and the L2 VPN based services that run over it (MEF services, E-line, E-Lan, E-Tree). You will also act as the subject matter expert for the internet platform and its routing policies. Capacity planning of the networks combined with utilisation and design are also key elements of the role along with the business case creation and design justification.

In addition, you will support and provide designs and solutions to fulfil current and future demands for IP/MPLS/DCN infrastructure for growth, sales support and strategic driven projects.  You will manage the effective delivery of detailed design workflow from job initiation through to implementation, along with the creation and maintenance of key network records. Also you will be responsible for financial and budget requirements and production of weekly reports.

Ideally you will have 5 years experience within a service provider environment with an in depth knowledge of MPLS. You will also have a good technical understanding of BGP planning and implementation. Exposure to SDN/NFV would be desirable. You should demonstrate a good working knowledge of other telecommunications technologies, primarily optical and fibre optics.

You will be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Visio and Excel and have experience of design within a telecommunications environment. You will also have experience in the use of geographical information systems.

We are looking for candidates that can display a high level of confidence, be able to demonstrate initiative and will have the ability to use flexible working to ensure we are delivering projects to time and budget.  If you are self-motivated with good working knowledge of telecommunications technologies, have a full driving licence and can demonstrate a strong focus on personal and corporate safety, then we want to hear from you.

In return, we can offer you a competitive salary package in a position which has excellent routes for career progression within the SSE Group. You'll also enjoy a generous leave entitlement (with an option to purchase additional leave), discounted energy, phone and broadband, plus a host of other lifestyle benefits.

Closing date for applications is Thursday 24th August 2017.
