Salary: up to £62,500 depending on skills and experience car + bonus

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks forms part of the FTSE-50 energy company, SSE. Our electricity distribution and transmission networks carry electricity to over 3.7 million homes and businesses across the north of Scotland and Central Southern England. Our skilled teams are based right across the regions we serve, from the bustle of West London to the smallest villages in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

Our Strategic Investment team are responsible for the design and delivery of capital projects across the distribution network in the south of England, ensuring we meet our obligations agreed with the regulator as part of the RIIO-ED1 settlement.   Projects include the replacement of large substation assets, cables and overhead lines together with the refurbishment and reinforcement of the network.  Our annual spend is in excess of £65M and our rechargeable projects amount to a further £15M.

As Portfolio and Performance Manager, you will have responsibility for delivery of the capital projects portfolio within Strategic Investment.  Working closely with the project teams, you will ensure the project portfolio is managed in line with the programme set out by the Engineering and Investment team to deliver the outputs required by our price control settlement.  You will drive productivity of project teams and contractors to ensure our annual plan is delivered on time and in a cost effective manner.  You will also be responsible for leading on project, safety and quality compliance within Strategic Investment ensure all projects comply with the requirements of SSE policy and CDM Regulations.

To be successful you will need to be able to demonstrate experience in managing multiple projects and programmes.  Ideally you will hold an accredited project/programme management related qualification or an engineering qualification with proven project management experience.  You will be a strategic and tactical thinker with excellent problem solving skills and the ability to adapt to change.  You have a high degree of commercial acumen and be able to demonstrable experience of preparing and managing multi-million pound budgets.  You will have a proven track record of managing individuals and working with contractors, and be pivotal in driving excellence and encouraging high performance across your team and the wider business. We also look for our employees to be excellent communicators, you’ll possess an ability to communicate with stakeholders and at all levels, and be proactive in networking and building relationships both internal and external. Additionally you should be comfortable in analysing data and have good level of IT skills particularly with Excel.

A detailed understanding of the electricity distribution business or a similarly regulated industry is essential and you will be familiar with projects involving civil and electrical aspects.  You will have an understanding of the challenges surrounding RIIO price control and other industry regulations and be able to identify and implement innovative and effective business improvements.
