This role is about developing and maintaining the framework for the management of a scalable metering supply chain, as it transitions from a world of heritage to smart meters. Working with commercial and internal service providers, you’ll lead on contract negotiations and will own the overall supply chain strategy and target operating model for Metering, ensuring stock holding is optimal and the operational team are in receipt of the right goods at the right time.

Metering Supply Chain Management is responsible for the supply chain which involves over 200 stock keeping units and ensures 3,000 operational staff are kept productive installing meters in customer premises for SSE and other energy suppliers. The role covers both smart and heritage supply chain in domestic and business settings. It includes the on-going forecasting, ordering, delivery and reverse supply chain of metering assets and associated consumables, enabling us to deliver the smart mandate and ensuring we have sufficient heritage assets until no longer required. Furthermore, you’ll be responsible for the management of supply chain related risks and their mitigation measures.

You will manage the supplier relationship with meter asset providers and manufacturers, building rapport based on sound commercial and strategic principles. Alongside this, you’ll be accountable for the local stores operation within Metering ensuring compliance with safety and operational policies and procedures.

Your success will be dependent on an in-depth understanding of Heritage and Smart Metering and a good understanding of Supply Chain Management and Logistics operations, including industry working practices for returns and commercial MAP principles for warranty and fault management. You should hold a project management qualification, such as Prince 2, and have led and managed projects and improvement initiatives with a budget and timescale of over a year.

You should be a strong leader with the ability to influence and coach others. You should display excellent interpersonal skills, will be assertive, collaborative and demonstrate an ability to discuss issues and resolutions with staff at all levels within the Company.

A confident user of Microsoft Office applications. Well organised, analytical and methodical, you will be a good communicator, adaptable to changing priorities. You should have excellent planning skills and great problem solving ability. Moreover, you’ll demonstrate an ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
