Metering Release Management is the about the co-ordination and deployment of systems, firmware and programme releases into the business, this is a role which works closely with the IT Programme Delivery Leads, internal IT resources and external stakeholders to ensure this happens successfully.

You’ll manage a team of technical experts. You’ll establish and govern the Release Policy for all metering related systems and technology drops, including documented environment management standards. You’ll lead and coordinate release ‘go no go’ governance ensuring stakeholders are informed and signed on to releases impacting the wider businesses. Also, being responsible for ensuring the Release schedule aligns to the Environment booking expectations, you’ll focus on minimising conflict and mitigating risk, and disseminating lessons learnt.

You should have significant understanding of the utilities, metering business and/or Smart Meter technology, as well as a thorough knowledge of release and environment management and testing. You should be conversant with the concepts and principles of Release Management for Smart Metering or a similar environment and possess a good understanding of the Smart Energy Code (SEC). Experienced in managing change, you will have steered significant projects with a budget and timescale of over a year and you’ll have built and led small teams to act as experts in their field.

Your technical skills should include ITIL v3 Diploma or equivalent, specific to the release management environment, and project management and continual improvement methodologies such as Prince 2 and Kaizen or Six Sigma for example. You should be familiar with industry standards including ISO 20000, ISO 27001 and Data Communication Company (DCC) future approaches. You should also display strong knowledge of IT testing principles and practices in terms of quality assurance.

Furthermore, you should have excellent attention to detail and problem solving skills, whilst collaborating, negotiating and influencing will also be amongst your talents.
