Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks forms part of the FTSE-50 energy company, SSE. Our electricity distribution and transmission networks carry electricity to over 3.7 million homes and businesses across Scotland and Central Southern England. Our skilled teams are based right across the regions we serve, from the bustle of West London to the smallest villages in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

Fifty-nine Scottish islands are currently connected to the electricity network that serves mainland Great Britain by the Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution’s submarine electricity cables. There are 112 submarine electricity cables totalling over 450 km - with some sections having been in place for over 50 years.

To build a sustainable networks business we need to make sure that our investment decisions are made with the interests of our stakeholders in mind. To understand our customer’s interests, we need to make sure that we ask stakeholders what they want from us and find ways of building what they want into how we do business.

You will be responsible for making sure that the views of legitimate sea users, customers, land and marine owners and occupiers, and regulators are considered in the way that we replace our submarine electricity cables as they reach the end of their operational life. You will do this by gathering views effectively, analysing what we are told and working with colleagues to ensure the delivery of change. You will plan design and deliver stakeholder engagement activities from detailed written consultations to community events and translate what we learn from stakeholders into lasting business change. You will work constructively with colleagues to explain what stakeholders are telling us and agree ways in which we can adapt to better meet their needs. You will translate complex technical and financial concepts into easily understood words and graphics.

To ensure you get the most from your role, and our customers receive the highest standard of service, we ask that you hold a degree level qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience in a similar field.   You will be able to develop and manage healthy relationships in challenging project circumstances and be confident negotiating and influencing internal and external organisations and individuals.  An understanding of the energy sector is preferred and a working knowledge of the regulation of electricity networks is a bonus.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do, so an appreciation and adherence to safety culture is vital. You will be an outstanding communicator both written and verbally, with an ability to convey complex and sometimes difficult messages in an easy to understand way. You should be comfortable speaking in public in front of large audiences and at times you will be required to undertake written and broadcast media interviews. You will have great autonomy in this role, with the opportunity to manage your own workload and time, therefore excellent time management and organisation skills are essential.

For us it's not just about being good at what you do - it's about enjoying what you do, too. So we'll encourage and empower you to be imaginative, share your great ideas, and do work that you can be proud of. In return for being your best for our customers, you'll also enjoy a variety of benefits and development opportunities. On top of a competitive salary, you'll enjoy generous holiday entitlement, a Group Pension Plan, share options and discounts on energy bills, phone and broadband.
