We’re busy installing Smart meters into all our customers homes and this is a great opportunity for you to play a key role in ensuring this programme is a success.

You will be a member of the Procurement & Commercial team, which is accountable for the delivery of a range of products and services into the Smart Programme, from managing supplier relationships with metering asset manufacturers and display suppliers to ensure robust supplier performance. You will work closely with our Legal and Retail business areas to provide commercial support to contract operations teams, in order to drive continuous improvement and maintain value for money.

You’ll support the Procurement and Commercial managers in providing a world class service to internal customers, covering supplier relationship management, performance management, contact administration and dispute resolution. You’ll be responsible for the commercial management and administration of contracts in accordance with internal policies and procedures and the Governance Framework. You’ll support the delivery of departmental KPIs and objectives, including savings in total cost of ownership, value engineering and safety performance.

You’ll work with the Category Managers and Procurement Officers to ensure the best approach is taken in sourcing goods, works or services, identifying opportunities for reductions in supply chain costs and looking for areas of improvement in the overall process. You’ll provide commercial support for projects, including the review of sourcing strategies, cost estimates, submissions, tender interviews and contract award recommendations.

You will also compile and negotiate contract variations in accordance with terms and provisions of Agreements, and manage the interface with suppliers, contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure value for money and that commercial controls are embeded in contracts.

You should have previous experience in supporting strategic projects and contracts, demonstrating a good working knowledge of the relevant conditions of contract. You should be familiar with procurement related systems such as Oracle and Emptoris, and have a good understanding of supplier management techniques, budgets, payments and expenditure. You’ll be aware of the commercial impact of decisions and the implications on procurement processes, as well as statutory and legal provisions.

You should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and hold an appropriate professional body membership. You should be confident interpreting numerical data and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. You should have experience in drafting and interpreting commercial contracts, and a good understanding of the supply chain and how it can be improved.

Moreover, you will have excellent organisation and planning skills, an ability to work to deadlines and the flexibility to manage changing priorities. You should be self-motivated, resilient and be able to think outside your own sphere of responsibility. Strong negotiation and influencing skills will be required.
