- Trainee Solicitor role: as per Law Society Rates (circa £18,000 in the first year)
- Commercial Solicitor role: £30,000 -£40,000 (Depending on Experience and Location)

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and self motivated individual to join our Retail Legal team, based either at our Head Office in Perth or at our Reading office. The Retail Legal team supports a wide variety of businesses including Customer Services, Marketing, Partnerships, Metering, Home and Essential Services, providing a great opportunity to develop knowledge of this sector. You will be required to ensure compliance with all relevant laws, licences and industry codes.
We are looking for either:
a Graduate at the launch of their legal career to join our two year in-house trainee programme. Throughout the comprehensive training plan, you will be exposed to the Retail business area within SSE, enabling you the opportunity to put your theory into practice and gain invaluable industry experience – working on open cases and supporting live projects. As part of this programme, you will cover Commercial and Consumer Law. You will also have the full support of a business mentor who will guide you through the process and assist you in reaching your full potential.
a NQ -3 years PQE with experience in a commercial in-house or private practice role . Your responsibilities will extend to providing general commercial and legal advice to the SSE Retail business on energy and essential services to consumers. You'll be negotiating and drafting a variety of commercial and customer contracts for key projects across the Retail Directorate, including customer facing terms and conditions, white label partnerships and sponsorship agreements. You will carry out general marketing work, deal with branding issues and liaise with key stakeholders including Regulation and Compliance.
For the Trainee Solicitor role, you should hold a degree in Scots law and a Diploma in Legal Practice or hold a degree in English Law and have passed the Legal Practice Course . We are looking for the future leaders of our business; you must therefore be flexible, self motivated and confident in your decision making. Your communication and interpersonal skills are vital as you will be responsible for representing the business at all levels and with various internal and external stakeholders on a daily basis. Your ability to work as part of a team is also imperative to your success as well as passion for our industry and a commitment to developing your career with SSE. For the Commercial Solicitor role, s trong negotiation and drafting skills are vital. You'll demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work with limited supervision. You will have experience in drafting complex agreements and advising clients on such agreements, consumer related and regulatory matters. Knowledge of the energy industry would be advantageous.
These roles will require some travel throughout the UK.
