LEAD NETWORK DESIGNER – IP/MPLS

Salary: Up to £64,000 depending on experience plus excellent benefits

We have a brand new opportunity which enables you to work on one of the largest telecoms and data centre networks within the UK. This role is within the IP/MPLS design team which forms part of the Reading based Network Technology Commercial team and design of the MPLS, DCN and Internet platforms.

We are currently operating 13,700km of private telecoms network with an estate of 70 data centres. Imagine the magnitude of change and growth you could be part of and influence!

The ideal candidate will:

  • Act as the design authority when interacting with other parts of the SSE Enterprise Telecom business
  • Be responsible for the expansion of the existing MPLS network and the L2 VPN based services that run over it (MEF services, E-line, E-Lan, E-Tree)
  • Act as the subject matter expert for the internet platform and its routing policies
  • Do the Capacity planning of the networks combined with utilisation and design
  • Business case creation and design justification
  • Be responsible for the day to day management and development of the IP/MPLS team
  • Support and provide designs and solutions to fulfil current and future demands for IP/MPLS/DCN infrastructure for growth, sales support and strategic driven projects
  • Manage the effective delivery of detailed design workflow from job initiation through to implementation, along with the creation and maintenance of key network records
  • Be responsible for financial and budget requirements and production of weekly reports.

So what are we looking for?

  • Significant experience within a service provider environment with an in depth knowledge of MPLS
  • Good technical understanding of BGP planning and implementation
  • Exposure to SDN/NFV would be desirable
  • Good working knowledge of other telecommunications technologies, primarily optical and fibre optics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Visio and Excel
  • Experience in the use of geographical information systems
