SSE operates the largest Street Lighting Contracting business in the UK, maintaining in excess of 1 million lighting units and associated cable works for various clients including Councils, Developers and the Highway Authority Motorway and Trunk Road works. We have an opportunity for a Highway Lighting Operative to join our Bristol team in order to assist with Severnside and surrounding area lighting contracts

In this role you will be responsible for the installation of the full range of highway lighting apparatus including street lighting furniture, central island poles, stand off brackets, poles and signs. You will work outdoors and at height and hold responsibility for operating mobile elevated works.

To be successful in this role, you should be able to work as part of a team and individually. You should have excellent communication and organisational skills and a good knowledge of the local road network and layout would be advantageous.

You must be able to drive over 3.5 tonne vehicles and an HGV licence is preferred as use of a HIAB will be involved. Previous experience of the Street Lighting industry – operating machinery, working on the highway as well as a full understanding of utility drawings and the dangers of damaging underground services is essential.
HGV Driving license,NRSWA and NPORS certificate for Hiab operation and a Jointers or Jointers mate qualification under NERS is also beneficial.
